Construction worker rescued after trench collapse

FALLS CHURCH, Va. - Crews were finally able to pull a construction worker trapped in a trench overnight to safety.

The rescue happened just before 1 a.m.

The worker was working in an 18-foot trench in front of a home located in the 7400 block of Venice Street when it collapsed on him and trapped him in mud up to his chest.

The construction worker had been trapped for nearly nine hours after the collapse.

The man is in the hospital recovering Friday morning.

FOX 5 was told the man is conscious and talking.
