LAFD Fire Helicopter Pilot/Firefighter Paramedic Dies After Plane Crash

The Los Angeles Fire Department regrets to announce the off-duty death of LAFD Fire Helicopter Pilot / Firefighter Paramedic Brian Lee. On Monday, June 9, 2014, around 11:15 a.m., Brian and a civilian passenger were involved in a crash of a fixed wing aircraft at the northwest end of El Mirage Dry Lake. Off-duty LAFD colleagues who witnessed the crash rushed to render aid.
San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the scene and began emergency care, airlifting both patients to local trauma centers. Brian unfortunately succumbed to his injuries, and his passenger remains in critical condition. Brian recently celebrated his 47th birthday and had served more than 25 years with the LAFD. Information regarding a memorial service will be provided as it becomes available.
