Chicago police chief McCarthy released from hospital

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy has been released from a hospital after being treated for blocked arteries.

Spokesman Adam Collins says the superintendent was discharged Saturday from Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Collins says he's "doing very well, resting comfortably at home and looking forward to being back on patrol very soon."

McCarthy took himself to the hospital Thursday morning. A Police Department statement the same day said only that McCarthy, who is 55, was being treated for blocked arteries and would remain in the hospital for several days to recuperate.

No other details have been released.
