WASHINGTON -

A woman has been critically injured after being struck by a dump truck in Northwest D.C. Friday afternoon.

D.C. police say the accident occurred at around 2:13 p.m. at 6th Street and Indiana Avenue. Authorities say she was walking in a crosswalk, but it is unclear who had the right of way.

The victim's family and a spokesperson for D.C. Superior Court confirmed the victim is Valerie Tillet and she is an employee at the courthouse. Sources say she worked in the criminal division of the clerk's office.

According to the victim's family, the woman underwent emergency surgery, but she may lose her legs.

Witnesses at the scene tell us the dump truck ran over the woman and then backed up over her again.

The 70-year-old driver of the dump truck stayed at the scene and was being interviewed by police.

The investigation is ongoing.
