Digital Workout Stations Guides Special Olympian Through Workouts

Posted: Updated:

New technology at the gym is helping people get in better shape, including Special Olympians.

Fox 29's Karen Hepp introduces us to a woman who is gaining part of her life back, all thanks to digital workout stations.

Kinsey Young has overcome a lot since she was born with several birth defects, which made it hard for her to communicate or even move.

"She had small eyes, she couldn't suck or swallow. They were afraid she would aspirate and die. She had issues with her cranium, she had turned in feet, said her father, Kent Young. “It's a terminal syndrome. A kid maybe lives two years."

However, 21-years later, Kinsey is going stronger than any doctor ever predicted.

Her father, Kent Young, says Kinsey still deals with low muscle tone and suffers from scoliosis due to complications when she was younger.

To combat her physical problems, Kinsey needs to workout, and she does so 5 days a week by herself.

“The limit is probably me and my wife giving her challenges that she can step up to because whenever we do, she does," said Kent.

But Kinsey, can't workout alone in just any gym to exercise independently, she uses what's called a digital workout station found at Koko FitClub in North Austin.

Each workout station is controlled by a computer, Kinsey simply stays at the same workout station and the computer tells her what exercises to do, how many reps, and if she's putting forth the right amount of effort.

The digital gym is not only an asset for Kinsey because it helps guide her through her workouts, it also helps track her progress, so that she can see how far she's come over the past year.

It works well for Kinsey because she is also tech savvy

The staff at Koko FitClub says the digital gym has helped Kinsey make major improvements in her overall physical health.

“When she started she had pretty low muscle tone. Every 12 sessions we do a strength test, so we could actually track the strength gains going on and since she started a year ago she's had over 200% strength gains," said one staff member.

Koko Fit Club also has a location in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
