SPRINGFIELD, Va. -

Fairfax County police have arrested a school band director at West Springfield High School for soliciting a minor.

53-year-old Laurence Einuis has been charged with use of communications systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children.

Police say Einuis is accused of engaging in an inappropriate conversation with a 14-year-old boy, who is a student at the school. Authorities say the boy was not harmed.

Einuis was arrested at the school on Thursday. The school says Einuis has been suspended.

He has been transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

A letter was sent home to parents notifying them about the arrest Thursday afternoon:

Dear West Springfield High School Families,

I wanted to alert you to some unpleasant news involving one of our teachers who was served with an arrest warrant today by Fairfax County Police and charged with use of communications systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children. The arrest of Mr. Einuis was in connection with an alleged incident involving one of our students. The teacher has been removed from the classroom and suspended. Police have indicated that this remains an ongoing investigation.

This is an unfortunate episode and certainly is not indicative of the wonderfully talented and professional staff we have assembled at West Springfield High School. If you have any questions or concerns about this or other school-related matters, please do not hesitate to contact my office. Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Sincerely,

Mark Greenfelder
Principal
