WASHINGTON - Friday, June 6 could easily be one of the best days ever. And no, it’s not because it’s the day before my birthday (although that helps) but it's National Donut (or Doughnut) Day!!!

Do you know where National Donut Day came from? It’s not just a day about enjoying those holey treats,  It actually was started by the Chicago Salvation Army to raise funds during the Great Depression, and honor the work of World War I Salvation Army volunteers who prepared donuts and other foods for thousands of soldiers on the front lines.

The day recognizing these brave volunteers and donuts began in 1938. To read more about the history of this day, CLICK HERE.

Donut shops around the country will be honoring this fabulous day with--what else-- free donuts. What could be better?
So, while you enjoy the delicious bite of a warm donut, why not take a minute to remember why we are celebrating this day?  National Donut Day falls on the first Friday of every June!
