Mother remembers daughter killed in hit and run

Posted: Updated:

Three teens walking to the store to get snacks Memorial Day weekend were struck by a hit and run driver. FOX 5's Aungelique Proctor sat down with a mother of one of the girls.

Police say the driver was trying to settle a business dispute with another driver when he hit the girls.

Two of the high school students did not survive. Reina As-Salaam was pronounced dead at the scene on Sunday, May 25. Juliana Ferrell, 16, and Monica Epps, 16, were both taken to nearby hospitals. Ferrell passed away on Friday.

Jane Ferrell says her daughter was a caring and giving young woman with a contagious smile.

“She brought such joy and love to any and every soul that she touched,” said Ferrell.

Police say Tansu Kanlica, the driver, is a locksmith who was chasing a non-paying customer when he lost control and hit the girls.

Jane Ferrell, mother of four, buried her daughter next to her best friend Reina so the two will be together forever.
