Woman's body found inside SUV

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - No one could have imagined the gruesome scene inside a red Durango parked on Piedmont Street on Detroit's west side.

But Monday morning, Leon Heard was out walking his dog when the dog chased a squirrel under the SUV. Heard saw someone was inside and knocked on the window.

"I knocked like this with my knuckles, like, 'Excuse me ma'am. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to' - and I looked. When I [saw] the blood I just went ballistic and I started screaming," remembers Heard.

A woman was in the driver's seat of the locked car. Her throat - slashed. So much blood, the neighbors, hysterical, called 911.

"This woman right here, she ran down here. It had to be like 7, 7:30. She's like 'It's a woman in the car.' All I kept hearing was, 'It's a woman. It's a woman,'" says neighbor Denne Jones.

Neighbors didn't recognize the car and didn't see it parked here Sunday night or early Monday morning.

Between the abandoned homes and the lack of streetlights they say their street is ripe for crime, but that this discovery was terrifying.

FOX 2's Amy Lange reports the Durango is registered to a 39-year-old woman from Sterling Heights but police are still in the process of identifying this victim and notifying her family.

UPDATE: Authorities have identified the woman as 39-year-old Desanee Young, who is a mother of four. Read more here.

"We are requesting if anybody has any information concerning this, any information surrounding the circumstances, if they can please give Detroit police a call," requests Detroit Police Officer Adam Madera.

You can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. You will remain anonymous.

The case was originally about workplace discrimination. Now it's dragged on for more than a decade despite the case appearing to be one that the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation can't win.
