UPDATE: House demolition leads to dangerous flood in Detroit

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) - The City of Detroit tore down a blighted home Thursday but neighbors say that only lead to more problems. Water started flowing from a broken line filling the foundation to the brim. After days of gushing water, neighbors called Fox 2 for help.

New Monday: The Detroit Mayor's office says the site is pumped out and service crimped.

A steady stream of water runs down the drain -- water that's filled up the foundation of a home on Carson on Detroit's southwest side. It's been overflowing and flooding the street. The abandoned building was demolished Thursday and the water started leaking.

Neighbors say the demolition crew was trying to drain what now looks like a pool where the house used to stand, but it was filling up faster than they could handle. People who live nearby are worried about their own basements flooding. They're also worried a child could fall into the deep water.

"This looks dangerous," said concerned neighbor Joseph Cruz. "The water company should have been here 24 hours after this happened and three days later they haven't show up yet."

Fox 2 contacted the mayor's office. A supervisor from the Water Department came out right away and started making calls to his crews. They'll start pumping out the water immediately to determine the source of the leak and fix it.
