World famous air show thrills crowd at Jones Beach

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

An acrobatic dance of military might on a weekend honoring America's heroes.

The Blue Angels are back and as big and bold as ever at Long Island’s world famous air show at Jones Beach.

The US Army's Golden Knights parachute teams dropped in on the thousands of people crowding around to watch the show.

Many visitors kept their eyes on the sky, feet in the sand and flags flying proudly in the wind.

With a slight chill in the air, it was still a day to finally break free from the winter cocoon with a quick splash in the Atlantic.

The meaning of Memorial holiday was not lost on the thousands of people who came to watch the show.

The Mitchell family knows why this weekend is important.

"It's important. It is about the commitment and soldiers who passed away… The ultimate sacrifice of freedom" they told us.

A weekend to remember, and an experience that many in the audience won't soon forget.

One man we spoke to summed it up as best as possible. “As a generation, we take our freedom for granted. We thank God for our serviceman" he said.
