To lose weight, lose your skinny jeans!

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA - Cece Olisa, 30, has struggled with her weight her entire life. She says, “I was probably 12 when the idea of dieting and losing weight came into the picture."

The California native took her frustrations online, blogging about dating, fashion and fitness at this website.

Olisa says when she finally ditched the idea of “getting skinny” for “getting healthy,” she lost 55 pounds!

She explains, "When it comes to dieting I've basically tried everything. When you go from doing a whole bunch of crazy things to just living a simple and healthy life, the results come very easily and that they are sustainable."

Dr. Steven Lamm from NYC Langone Medical Center suggests making small changes, and talking to your doctor about getting healthy. He says, “Let's start with a 5 percent weight loss, okay?  Because that may actually reduce the amount of medicine or reduce the likelihood you're going to need some medication. If you can lose more than 5 percent, fantastic"

Lamm is a consultant for a new website called www.myhealthy.com.  The website encourages followers to “liberate” their closets, clearing out “skinny” jeans.  Professional organizer and author Julie Morgenstern explains, “Most of us who struggle with our weight think, if we keep the stuff in smaller sizes, it's going to motivate us to behave differently.  But the truth is those clothes staring at you do not motivate , they criticize."

Morgenstern helped Cece clear out the clutter in her closet.  She gave Cece two rules on a stick-up note: keep only what “fits right now” and what makes her “feel fabulous.”  She says organizing your closet will give you an immediate payoff: pushing you to make other healthy decisions.   Morgenstern says if you just can’t let go of an item that you really love but doesn’t fit, pack it up with your “someday” clothes somewhere else in your home.

Morgenstern says store the clothes you keep by size, “And get them out of your current everyday experience.  And, when you get there through whatever changes you're making and when they fit, shop your own closet!"

Cece Olisa says the makeover was liberating.  She says, “Instead of wasting time putting on a whole bunch of clothes, that I didn't really like, now I've got that extra 30 minutes.  So, maybe I can get a workout in, cook my lunch for the day, something like that."

The website (www.myhealthy.com) encourages people to upload “before” and “after” photos of their closet on the website.  The online community is sponsored by Eisai Inc, a Japanese pharmaceutical company that produces the weight loss drug Belviq.
