WASHINGTON - The sky over D.C. should be clear Friday night, and astronomers predict that will set up a perfect opportunity to view a new meteor shower in the early morning hours of Saturday.

NASA ambassador and Sky Guy Greg Redfern tells FOX 5 the new meteor shower, known as the Camelopardalids, will be best viewed between 2-4 a.m., with the predicted peak happening between 2:30 and 3:30 a.m.

Redfern says if you go outside between 2-4 a.m., you should look toward the north, away from bright lights.  You should see between 100 and 200 meteors--and according to some models, many more than that.

You shouldn't need a telescope to see this one-- just a nice spot with a good view, and again, no bright lights.  If you look up, you should see streaks of light.  There have also been reports of early fireballs-- which is a meteor that is brighter than Venus.
