London, England- The London Zoo welcomed a new addition to its rainforest life exhibit this week.
However, the pregnancy came as a surprise to zookeepers as they had no idea the male and female parents had even mated.
The father arrived from Germany in 2012 and was later paired with the mother, and despite the zoo's efforts, they say the pair did not seem into each other.
Well, it appears they hit it off.
"We have a new baby sloth which is really super exciting, it's the first one we've ever had here at London Zoo. He's, well, she, we're not sure yet the sex of the youngster. It's born to our mother Marilyn, a female sloth and a father Leander,” said zookeeper Tegan McPhail.
Zookeepers will not know if the baby is a boy or a girl until it is scanned by vets.
