Massive python discovered in backyard

Posted: Updated:
Wagoner County, OK -

A large python was caught in the backyard of a family's home in Oklahoma – of all places.

But this one wasn't from the wild. The 15-foot Burmese python was taken to an animal shelter, until it was discovered it belonged to the family's neighbor. They apparently also own other exotic snakes.

No one was harmed by the snake, which had apparently escaped and set about exploring the backyards of neighboring homes.

The pythons average 13 feet long in the wild, but can grow up to 19 feet.

However, thousands have taken up residence in the Florida Everglades after escaping from zoos and being released by owners who no longer wanted them.
