Man Builds Popsicle Stick Mansion For His Toy Car Collection

Posted: Updated:

KALAMAZOO, M.I.- A Michigan man has turned his unique hobby into a possible museum exhibit.

Doug Davis started building massive model homes from popsicle sticks over ten years ago after recovering from a foot injury.

He's built mini-mansions complete with five-car garages, jacuzzis, light fixtures, flat screen TVs, and faucets.

Each house takes about five thousand sticks and about a year to complete. Now a local museum has contacted him to eventually create an exhibit.

"Sometimes I wish I could minimize myself and go in there. And it’s just unique cause it looks so real when I look at it.” Davis explains, “I amaze myself sometimes. I sit back like, ‘Did I do that?’ I walk out of the room and walk back in, and I’m like, ‘Look what I did here!’ You know?"

Davis explains how difficult it is for him to stop building, and adding to his projects once he has started.

“I look up, it’s three o’clock in the morning, and I’m like ‘Woah!’ Sometimes I come home from work like ‘I’m not gonna work on this house tonight, but then you look at it and think, ‘I could just do this.’ Two three hours later your into it!” Davis says.

Davis is currently working on his third popsicle stick mansion, and is hopeful that he can leave his latest work just the way it is.
