Naval Academy Students Complete Monument Climb

Posted: Updated:
ANNAPOLIS, M.D.- The Maryland Naval Academy's Class of 2017 took part in a 50 year tradition on Monday.

Students were tasked with building a human pyramid tall enough to remove the dixie cup from the top of the monument, and replacing it with a combination cover.

The exercise symbolizes the freshman class moving up from plebes to fourth class midshipman.

Hundreds came out to cheer on the symbolic event, which took the freshman class 2 hours and 19 minutes to complete.
