Soldier Returning Home From Overseas Surprises Mother

Posted: Updated:
SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. -- It's not too late for a Mother's Day surprise as a soldier returning from overseas gives the best gift of all.

Cynthia Guerrero thought she was going to look for a new RV in Santa Fe Springs, but instead she got to see her son, Gabriel Guerrero.

The U.S. Army Specialist just finished a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

However, it was his sisters who came up the idea for the surprise as their mother was in the market for a new RV.

The RV owner, George "Cowboy" Pent, is a veteran himself and jumped at the chance to get in on the plan.

"Being a Marine, surely I'm gonna do this for this guy. It's so wonderful. Veterans don't get enough recognition," Pent said.

Cynthia says she was shocked and speechless with the surprise.

"This is the best gift a mother can have, to hold her son soldier in my arms," Cynthia said. "He means the world to me, and having him in Afghanistan was very hard for me."

When asked if it was hard keeping it a secret from his mother, Gabriel said, "It was, she kept asking me all the time when I was gonna come home."

Cynthia says while it wasn't the reunion she imagined; it was even better than she thought.
