CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Police issued an alert after a man tried luring a 15-year-old girl into his SUV on her way to school early Thursday in the Portage Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The incident occurred about 8 a.m. in the 5400 block of West Roscoe Street, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

Police said the man drove a white four-door SUV toward the girl and told her to “get in the car.”

When the girl looked inside the vehicle, she saw the man moving his hand in a rapid motion near his lower body, the statement said. The girl continued to walk toward her school and said she thought she saw the same vehicle before entering the building.

The suspect is thought to be a white or Hispanic man, about 27 to 35 years of age, standing between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10, weighing between 150 and 170 pounds, with short brown hair, brown eyes, an olive complexion and a light goatee, police said. He was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on the incident should contact Area North detectives at (312) 744-8200.
