Mario Andretti Takes 102-Year-Old For Ride At Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Posted: Updated:
Indianapolis,IN- One Indiana woman is proving age is nothing but a number.

This 102-year-old woman recently got to take laps around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in a racecar.

Racing great Mario Andretti was at the wheel while Edith Pittenger sat in the passenger in seat.

At times, they reached speeds of 180-miles-per-hour.

You’d think that's fast enough, but the 102-year-old says she was hoping to reach 200-miles-per-hour.

"I would just jump in the car and the kids would ride on the running board and we'd go around the reformatory that's down at Pendleton where I was born," Pittenger said.

Her grandson is impressed by his grandmother's energy.

"I know people in their 70s and 80s, who I mean they're bedridden, and they can't get around or hardly do anything, but I mean my goodness she's 102 and she's going 180 miles an hour at least in a race car," Garett Cates said.

Turns out, this isn't the first time Pittenger has taken a trip around the track.

In 2008, she rode with Arie Luyendyk Jr.

And for her 100th birthday, she went parasailing.
