Good Samaritans Rescue Woman From Burning Car

Posted: Updated:

Lake Crystal, MN- A dramatic rescue was caught on camera after lighting strikes a Minnesota woman's car, trapping her inside and setting the vehicle on fire.

Miraculously, two Good Samaritans were close enough to come to her rescue.

Lake Crystal police say the incident started when Jackson resident Anna Smith's car stalled.

She was traveling on Highway 60 and called 9-1-1 for help.

Officer Chris Burban and a passerby, Michael Smith, smashed open a passenger side-window and pulled the woman from the car.

"She had called and said her car had died. I was going to check on the vehicle," Officer Burban said. “She called back and said her car was on fire.”

Officer Burban says no one was going to burn to death on his watch. He also says if they were further away it could have been a dead body call.

"There could be a person in there, I guess I didn't think, I just ran and tried to save her," Good Samaritan Michael Smith said.

All three suffered minor cuts and scrapes, but got to walk away from what could have been a tragedy.
