YPSILANTI, Mich. (WJBK) -- It appears the hunt for Ypsilanti's 'mystery pooper' is over.

Ypsilanti Police Chief Tony DiGiusti tells MLive.com his department made contact with an individual believed to be responsible for regularly defecating in Prospect Park between November and April.

DiGiusti wouldn't provide further details, but says there have no further incidents since contact was made with the individual, who is believed to live in a nearby halfway house. MLive.com reports no charges were brought against the person.

Authorities had set up patrol and security cameras after feces was repeatedly left on a slide in the park.

The story gained national attention after a Michigan advertising and marketing firm joined the search with a billboard along I-94 near South Huron Street, encouraging the public to turn in the mystery pooper. The eye-catching billboard toggled through these various slogans:

Help us flush the pooper #YPSIPOOPER

Do your civic doody report the pooper. #YPSIPOOPER

Help us catch the poopetrator #YPSIPOOPER
