Mother Pays Off Students’ Overdue Lunch Balances After She Says Son Denied Lunch

Posted: Updated:
Dowagiac, MI- A mother is fighting back against a high school in Michigan after she says her son was denied a school lunch.

Dominic Gant's mother, Amanda Keown, says her son was embarrassed in front of students at Dowagiac Union High School.

According to the family, his lunch was actually taken away from him when an outstanding balance on his school lunch account was discovered.

"It was really embarrassing, especially in front of the whole lunchroom," Gant said.

Keown says she felt bad for her son, so she decided to take actions into her own hands.

"I was appalled that he was denied lunch, and that his lunch was taken out of his hands over 5 bucks," Keown said. "She asked me where is the cutoff, where do you draw the line for charges, when do you say no more? And I said there shouldn't be a line."

His mother also says that she doesn’t want another kid to go through what her son had to go endure.

She not only paid off her son's balance, but she paid off 19 other students’ balances, totaling more than $200.
