Two families, 12 people in all, scrambled to escape the fierce fire at a two story home on Detroit's west side. Detroit Fire says the damage is so heavy the families can not return to the house at West Grand Boulevard and Warren until repairs are made. Both families watched firefighters battle the blaze on Mother's Day morning. It started in a vacant house next door and spread to the occupied home. The displaced residents say in recent months they've watch furniture and debris dumped into the vacant house. They reported the problem to the city but they say nothing was done. Around 7:30am Sunday neighbors say they saw someone set fire to the vacant home.

"That house had been up for demolition since last year and the city did not tear it down," said Nannette Grier. "Because it sat there it caused me to lose my home."

Investigator are looking for the people responsible for setting the fire. If you have any information, call the Detroit Fire Dept. Arson Squad.
