The American Blade Runner Hopes To Compete In The Olympics

Posted: Updated:

Mesa, AZ- He's known as the "American Blade Runner."

Blake Leeper has no legs, but he's hoping to be able to compete in the next Olympics in Brazil.

"If you were to come up to me five years ago and say Blake you are going to be a professional runner trying to make the Olympic team I would have laughed in your face. I have no legs there, but every day I put on my blades I feel I transform into a superhero," Leeper said. "Basically, my story is born in deep south Tennessee no legs doctors said I would never walk."

Leeper says growing up he always questioned why he was born without legs. He also says he was made fun of as a child.

As he got older, he realized that he was strong enough to handle it.

"I consider myself the American Blade Runner. I represent my country nothing better than to be a blade runner. No greater feeling that wearing the red white and blue," he said.

Leeper also plans to study to become a doctor.
