Special Needs Kids Surf With “Waves Of Impact”

Posted: Updated:

GALVESTON, TX-For kids who see and feel the world differently there's just something about ocean water that can't be replicated.

You could call it a natural "rhythm" that soothes, enthralls and restores in a simultaneous "wave of impact."

It was Keith Lovgren and his brother Josh who came to believe there's no better way for these special kids to find that groove than aboard - a surf board.

"I'll always remember my first wave and these kids they are going to remember their first wave and it just feels good to share something you love to do," said Lovgren, co-founder of Waves of Impact.

On the beach, doubts are rapidly ditched and fears simply evaporate as false limitations are shred, amid smiles that won't quit and heartfelt laughter.

At 13 years of age, Samantha McDivitt can't yet walk or talk, but on this glorious day in Galveston she can dang sure surf.

For her Mom and Dad, blessings get no bigger.

"The feeling of the ocean, the movement, it's just something these kids crave.

Waves of Impact has done so much for us. It's absolutely changed our lives," Monica McDivitt, Samantha's Mother.

It couldn't happen on this scale without the skills and deep commitment of caring volunteers . It's really no secret, why they keep coming back to serve dozens of Houston area children.

"It has such a beautiful impact on the families and I give thanks every day that I'm in a position to see that and be around that," said Lovgren.

For parents confronted daily by the ache of what can't be, there is a thrill beyond measure sparked by what occurs on the waves.

That's impact, “Waves of Impact.”
