Mother donates kidney to ailing son

Posted: Updated:
Every Mother’s Day has special meaning to the Johnson family of Walton County. While she was pregnant, Heather learned her unborn baby would eventually need a kidney transplant, if he survived at birth.

Little Brody has his first surgery when Heather was 28 weeks pregnant. When he was born, Brody immediately went into the NICU at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and five days old he began dialysis. Now 2-years-old, Brody has undergone 17 surgeries in his young life.

He has dialysis three days a week.

In March, Heather learned she was a match to donate a kidney to her son. She says from the beginning, she knew she would never ask anyone to donate, if she could do it herself.

Brody is an active little boy who loves playing with his big brother four-year-old Ryder.

The family says their faith and a great support system has helped them thru many difficult times and they cherish every moment they have with each other. Now, they are anxious to get the surgery behind them.
