COUNTERFIET HEALTHCARE CERTIFICATES - Federal prosecutors have been slowly unraveling a massive fraud ring into how DC healthcare companies defrauded the government and now they have a guilty plea. Adoshia L. Flythe, 36, of Washington, D.C., pled guilty Thursday to selling counterfeit health certificates to people seeking jobs in the home health care industry. The fakes cost the buyer $350 dollars, and then those companies filed false reimbursement claimed against DC for care that wasn't provided. The investigations uncovered numerous, separate schemes involving fraud, kickbacks, and false billings in the growing field of home care services for DC Medicaid patients. Flythe faces up to 6 months in jail and $5,000 fine.

MGM CASINO PLAN - The massive new Casino resort planned by MGM for National Harbor in Prince George's County has taken a big step forward to being a reality. In a 4-0 vote by the Prince George’s County Planning Board, the detailed site plan for MGM National Harbor has been approved. MGM Resorts now says that vote move the project closer to final county approval and the building permits to begin construction at National Harbor. It's been a big debate in Fairfax and now a school Officials are going to get an earful from the public. Fairfax administrators will hold 8 meetings with parents in coming weeks to talk about plans to delay high school start times. Last month In the board approved four possible options. Under the current plans, classes may be delayed to 8 a.m., 40 minutes after the current opening bell at 7:20 a.m. They cited studies from the Children's National Medical Center stating later start times help students be more alert in class.

GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS - What's a GMO? Genetically modified foods have been around for years, but most people have no idea if they are eating them. Often it's to breed a bigger turkey, or cows that produce more milk. The FDA says they don't need to be labeled, so now there's a fight in the states and Congress over whether they should be. In Congress, the food industry is pushing a House bill that would head off efforts to enact mandatory labeling of genetically modified ingredients by proposing new voluntary labels nationwide - an attempted end run around the state-by-state laws.

Today's History:

In 1754, a political cartoon in Benjamin Franklin's Pennsylvania Gazette depicted a snake cut into eight pieces, each section representing a part of the American colonies; the caption read, "JOIN, or DIE."

In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson, acting on a joint congressional resolution, signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.

In 1974, the House Judiciary Committee opened public hearings on whether to recommend the impeachment of President Richard Nixon. (The committee ended up adopting three articles of impeachment against the president, who resigned before the full House took up any of them.)

“A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others” ? L. Frank Baum.
