Teen weighing nearly 500 lbs. working to lose weight, inspire others

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) - A Clinton Township mom asked for help, desperate to help her teenage son lose weight. Now, FOX 2 has reached out to professionals who are teaming up with her son to help turn his life around.

Sixteen-year-old Daniel Taylor has been obese most of his young life and, weighing nearly 500 pounds, struggles to do almost anything physical.

Now, Daniel is now hoping to change all that with help from Medical Weight Loss Clinic's program for teenagers.

In February at his first weigh in, Daniel was given a menu plan and counseling before the real work began. Now, he is eating lean protein and lots of vegetables. He says eating these healthy foods is a huge change for him, but he's determined for a few reasons.

"I want to march in the Thanksgiving day parade and I want to get to Florida, go to Disney World and do rides and what not, and I want to fit in the seats at a Tiger game," he tells FOX 2's Deena Centofanti.

Despite his determination, the challenge of losing weight won't be easy. Daniel is pre diabetic, has high blood pressure and obesity runs in his family.

About six weeks into the program, Daniel is back to weigh in at Medical Weight Loss Clinic and he's down about 18 pounds.

"It's been nice to see his blood pressure actually decrease along with the weight loss. So, there's been some real positive things happen in his health as he goes through this metamorphosis," says Tracy Strieter from Medial Weight Loss Clinic.

Daniel wants to be successful not just for himself but to inspire other kids.

It's been about two and a half months since Daniel started the weight loss program. He's now lost about 20 pounds.
