Previous legal troubles for suspects in attorney shooting

Attorney David Zacks Attorney David Zacks
(WJBK) - Four Sterling Heights residents have been charged after the shooting of an attorney from Bloomfield Hills. Authorities say the suspects have previous records and the woman involved may have a connection with the attorney.

Investigators say David Zacks, 57, was critically wounded when someone posing as a police officer shot him through his front door.

Cassandra Chobod, 28, is the alleged mastermind behind what's being called a "robbery gone wrong." She's currently jailed on a two million dollar bond.

The four suspects allegedly planned to burglarize the home but left to get a gun when they realized Zacks' family was inside.

Devon Miller is the accused gunman. His alleged accomplices are Henry Williams and Christopher Hernandez-Montiel.

Those who went to school with Williams and Hernandez say they were surprised to learn of their suspected involvement. Click on the video player above to hear more from them in a report from FOX 2's Amy Lange.

Hernandez is being held on a two million dollar bond. Miller and Williams each have five million dollar bonds and are accused of committing this crime while on probation for bank robbery.

Sterling Heights police tell Lange they've had negative contact with all four of the suspects involved but say they cannot comment any further due to the pending investigation.

As for Chobod, it's not clear what her supposed relationship was was with Zacks, only that the new mother had allegedly been to his house before and knew the layout.
