Pellet gun brought to elementary school, parents say they weren't notified

Posted: Updated:
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) - Some parents are upset with how a school district handled the situation when a student brought a pellet gun to school.

Last week, a 4th grader at McGlinnen Elementary School in Clinton Twp. brought a pellet gun to school. The student apparently had the gun all day and also showed it off on the playground.

Eventually, someone told authorities near the end of the school day. The student is now suspended and school officials held an assembly to reiterate the importance of coming forward with that kind of information.

However, parents apparently were never alerted and police were never called.

One mother, who wished to remain anonymous, says she learned about the situation when her daughter told her a few days after it happened.

She called school officials and tells FOX 2's Taryn Asher she felt they were downplaying the incident and didn't consider the pellet gun a "real" weapon.

Officials at the school have not yet returned our phone calls.
