LOS ANGELES -
I know I say that I "geek out" a lot about movies and interviews.  Here's the thing: anytime I use those two words, I truly mean it.  I genuinely get so excited about something that I either use "geek out" or "nerd tears".  Since I was in high school, my favorite movie has been Quentin Tarantino/Tony Scott's "True Romance," a film that bombed at the box office but became a cult hit on DVD many years later.

The fact that the movie bombed at the box office has never made any sense to me.  The cast included Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken, Dennis Hopper, Chris Penn, Tom Sizemore, James Gandolfini, Samuel L. Jackson and so many more! It was the first major screenplay written by Quentin Tarantino.  He sold the script so that he could direct his first feature, "Reservoir Dogs."  The legendary Tony Scott ("Top Gun," "Days of Thunder") decided to direct the film and turned in to the masterpiece that I know today.  Underneath all of the violence and bad language in the film is one of the most incredible love stories.  The film is not for everyone and is a very hard R-Rated movie.

Now that the film has started to gain popularity over the years, it has started to show up at festivals and screenings.  And 21 years later, I now sit here at the Safari Inn Motel, where some of the film's sequences were shot.  My girlfriend, Lauren, and I traveled from Washington D.C. to Burbank, Ca., just so we could see the film on the big screen and stay at the iconic hotel from the film.  Other films have been shot here as well, including "Apollo 13!"

The festival is called "True Romance Fest" and is a two-day festival including a screening of the film and a Q&A with some of the cast members.  Last night, Lauren and I attended a pre-party to the festival and had the honor of meeting an actor named Paul Bates.  He's better known as "Marty" from "True Romance" and in one of my favorite sequences from the film when Christian Slater confronts Gary Oldman.  It's a very tough sequence but there are so many memorable lines.  Lauren and I took a picture with Paul Bates in front of the Safari Inn sign!

The real geeking out had begun! I spotted the 2nd AD (assistant director) of "True Romance" sitting in a corner at the pre-party.  She had the ACTUAL shooting script for the film with her!!! There were notes and you could tell the script had been through a lot.  It had a date of September 1992 on it!  I was flipping through and taking pictures of my favorite scenes! When Tarantino wrote the script, the original ending had Christian Slater's character dying! In the movie, he lives.  The script I saw last night had BOTH endings.  If you get the DVD/BLU-RAY, you can see the alternate ending that Tony Scott shot.

For Halloween in 2012, Lauren and I dressed up as Clarence (Slater) and Alabama (Arquette).  The costumes were so good that I brought a picture of us to Quentin Tarantino, who absolutely loved it!  Part of the costume contained two horseshoe rings that we found online.  Though last night at the festival, they had the REAL wedding rings used in the movie! Lauren and I were able to wear the ACTUAL wedding rings that were used in the movie by Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette!

The official festival kicks off today.  We are about to have breakfast with one of the film's stars, Bronson Pinchot! He left us a special autograph in our room! The screening of the film is tonight and then I'm hosting the Q&A with some of the cast members this evening!  I just can't believe that we are actually here!!! I'm so excited to see the film on the big screen.  The Safari Inn was a MAJOR setting for some of the key sequences for the film!

We will have more pictures and blog updates tomorrow!
