Mariachi De Azusa

Posted: Updated:

The Mariachi de Azusa is featured on today's Cinco de Mayo weekend edition of Midday Sunday. The mariachi is made up of students from grades 3 through 12 from schools in the Azusa Unified School District. The after school program gives young people an opportunity to learn about music and Mexican-America culture. They study singing, guitar, violin and trumpet. Many graduates have gone on to become professional singers and musicians.

The Mariachi de Azusa project began fifteen years ago, and for the past eight years it has been funded by annual concerts in the Azusa area. These are the details for this year's benefit concert:

Friday, May 16, 2014

6:00 to 9:00 pm

Gladstone High School Gymnasium

1340 North Enid Avenue, Covina

Ticket donations are $15 for adults and $5 for children aged 5 to 18.

Dinner plates are $5.

Tickets will be available at the door or in advance by calling (626) 858-6182 or (626) 858-6152

The the proceeds from the benefit concert go directly to the Mariachi de Azusa program.

Of all the world's religions, Buddhism is one of the most mysterious and most intriguing to many Americans. The books The Dharma Bums, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and even If You Meet the Buddha on the Road, Kill Him!, are all examples of how Buddhist concepts are part of the American cultural landscape.

For another glance of summertime fun, peer in as we spend some time at Pelican Pier in Long Beach with three pretty little girls! As they go around on the merry-go-round, you may start to think you’re seeing double … but you’re not. Chelsey and Airess (2010) are twins and came dressed alike in pink while younger sister Shayna (2012) came dressed for comfort in baby blue.
