Bill to fund Obama library slides through House committee

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - A multimillion dollar measure to fund the Obama Presidential Library has passed a hurdle in Springfield. The bill slid through an Illinois House committee Wednesday, despite Republican opposition.

Republicans want the library, but believe it should be paid through private funds. If the whole general assembly approves the bill, the measure would use $100 million of taxpayer money.

The state is competing against New York and Hawaii for the library's location.
