Need to improve your love life? Finding the right food could spark that romance

Posted: Updated:

Could your love life use a little spicing up? There are ways to ignite your romance by using food to rev up your sex drive.

Most of us know the quickest way to our lover's heart is through their stomach.

“So many people want to increase the spark in their relationship and food is a great way to do that,” said Dr. Dae Sheridan, a professor and clinical sexoligist.

But romance doesn't always mix with what's in your kitchen.

“Garlic is a superfood for libido,” Dr. Sheridan said.

Yes, you read that right.

“It increases your stamina and it also has those properties that make your nerves more sensitive,” she said. “It also raises testosterone and it helps with blood flow.”

Almonds are another food Dr. Sheridan recommends.

Culinary treats like truffles can help too.

“Everybody loves truffles,” said Dr. Sheridan. “It's the ‘it’ food. It raises androstenone, which makes others attracted to you. It raises those pheromones and draws those people to you sexually.”

But we found the most bizarre libido launcher is packed in a jar.

“Sauerkraut is fermented cabbage and there was one study done in Croatia that talked about its properties for erectile dysfunction and so they were calling the Eastern European Viagra,” said Dr. Sheridan.

It's not for everyone, but no matter the dish, sometimes it's simply the thought that counts.
