Report: City Hall, UFT near contract deal for teachers

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The administration of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and the union that represents teachers are close to reaching a deal, according to reports.

The mayor may announce the labor deal, said to be cover nine years, as soon as Thursday. Teachers have not had a contract since 2009.

The New York Times reported that the deal is almost set; the two sides are just finalizing language.

Labor contract talks between City Hall and the United Federation of Teachers went nowhere while Michael Bloomberg was mayor. The UFT sought retroactive back pay, but that was a sticking point with Bloomberg.
