Nissan's Self cleaning car undergoing testing in the U.K.

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - It's a paint coating that Nissan is testing called "ultra ever dry". The technology creates a thin air shield between the paint and the elements that essentially keeps the surface of the car from getting dirty, and the automaker has released a video showing exactly how it works.

Getting our cars washed seems like a weekly ritual for most of us living in the desert many people opt for the convenience of heading to a car wash instead of doing it ourselves. But now Nissan is testing a product that could change everything it is a car that cleans itself thanks to a special paint coating. We showed the video to the owner of the Los Olivos hand car wash in Phoenix to get her reaction.

"it's pretty interesting. When I saw it, I was like wow! But I think it might be awhile before we see something like that but if we do, retirement for me!" said Coletta Spurling.
The video from Nissan posted on YouTube shows the car's paint repelling rain, sleet, spray, standing water and mud literally rolls off the special paint coating so it could make those regular washes a thing of the past. Some car owners though aren't all that impressed.

"I'd rather wash my own car. Because you can never trust those chemicals, and you do not know what's going to happen down the road," said Tim Leija.
"That wouldn't be an important feature for me. I can't imagine it really working. And with the cost that's probably going to go with it, I don't think it would be worth it," said Roberta Vasquez.
Nissan says it will continue to develop the product but for now it looks like old fashioned car washes will not be closing up shop anytime soon.
"I don't see everyone having to go out and buy a Nissan just because they want the mud to roll off their car, so I don't see it hurting us in any way.)) ," said Spurling.
Nissan has no plans to make this standard on any of its cars, but it could be offered as an option.

It's being tested in the uk so there would also be questions about how it would hold up in different climates like the heat and sun in our desert.
