TAMPA (FOX 13) -
Bollywood met Hollywood on Saturday as the International Indian Film Academy held its annual awards ceremony -- the Bollywood Oscars -- in Tampa. In addition to the Indian film stars, several major American actors strolled down the green carpet at Raymond James Stadium.
Though they may not exactly be household names in Florida, the glamour, style, and swagger of the Indian stars like Anil Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, and Viveck Oberoi transcended any cultural barriers. Miss America 2014, Nina Davuluri, was also there to bridge the gap, while Kevin Spacey, John Travolta, and Stephen Baldwin were among those representing Hollywood.
This marked the 15th year for the IIFA Awards, but only the first time the ceremony has been held in the United States. Tampa's Dr. Kirwan Patel was instrumental in helping the city join the ranks of previous host cities like London, Dubai, Bangkok, and Toronto.
Saturday night's lavish awards ceremony capped a week of IIFA events in Tampa that included everything from business summits to a fashion show to a lively dance party in downtown Tampa.
