Md. swim coach accused of sexually abusing student

Posted: Updated:
ROCKVILLE, Md. - A longtime swim coach in Maryland is charged with sexually assaulting one of his young students three decades ago.
Chris Huott, 52, is the owner of the Maryland Suburban Swim Club based in Laurel.
The alleged victim, now 37, went to Montgomery county police a month ago to report the abuse that she says happened to her when she was a little girl and the accused was a trusted family friend.
Huott was released from jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
He's facing six felony charges in the case, accused of committing sex crimes on a young girl he coached and babysat in the 1980s when she was 7 to 12 years old.
"A lot of times in competitive sports or competitive situations young people spend long hours training and practicing and it gets in the way of parents' schedules," says Montgomery county State's Attorney's Office spokesman Ramon Korionoff.  "And so this individual seemingly - and we'll prove in court - used his position as a babysitter to conduct these heinous acts."
For the past 20 years, Huott has been renting lanes at the Fairland Aquatic Center in Laurel.  Laurel officials also say Huott has rented lanes at the city's Greenview Drive Pool for the past three summers.
According to charging documents, Huott is alleged to have at times assaulted his victim in the shower and while she was sleeping.
"We're looking for other victims out there," Korionoff says.  "If there are people who know about this case or who themselves were violated or were molested they need to come forward because we want to make sure that we hold defendants who victimize young children accountable."
There is no statute of limitations for felonies in Maryland.
