Edward James Olmos: LA Is The Character

Posted: Updated:

"L.A. is the character. It's L.A."

Edward James Olmos is talking to Steve and Maria about a new movie called "Water & Power." Olmos discovered this film at the L.A. Latino Film Festival and has been out pushing for people to see it ever since. It's about two brothers nicknamed Water & Power by their hard working father. One grows up to be a cop in L.A....the other a politician. An "unexpected and unavoidable tragedy" happens and sets off a chain of events. Olmos says this movie works on so many levels.

"It's a wonderful piece of entertainment but it's intellectually stimulating. It really makes you think."

Olmos also has nothing but praise for writer/director Richard Montoya. The veteran actor whose seen it all in Hollywood says Montoya nails it in his first ever feature film.

"This kid is an explosive piece of work. They should have never let him in the ballpark...he captures not only the culture of Los Angeles...but he also catches the tremendous difficulty in what we're facing with in Los Angeles. I mean it's about a politician and a cop so you can imagine two twin brothers so you can imagine where he goes, it's one night. You're gonna like it."

"Power & Water" opens in L.A. May 2nd. Olmos and one of the film's stars, Emilio Rivera, will be at the Citadel Outlets next Saturday and Sunday, May 3rd and 4th, to talk about the movie. They'll be there from 10-1.
