. - Today is Thursday, April 24, the 114th day of 2014. There are 251 days left in the year.

VIRGINIA MARYLAND DUAL REGISTERS - The phrase "Vote early and often" may be replaced by "double dipping" when it comes to voting registration in Virginia and Maryland. A crosscheck of voter rolls in Virginia and Maryland turned up 44,000 people registered in both states, according to the vote-integrity group Virginia Voters Alliance.
V.V.A President Reagan George told the State Board of Elections that the number of voters who actually cast multiple ballots is relatively small. In the case of Maryland and Virginia, he revealed that 164 people voted in both states during the 2012 election.

HOMELAND SECURITY PROBES MISCONDUCT - A Homeland Security watchdog is being accused of tipping off the department he's supposed to be watchdogging. Today the Senate Homeland Security and Government Operations Committee will release a report detailing the actions of Charles Edwards. Edwards was the acting Inspector General at the Homeland Security Department. But instead of rooting out problems, the report says he altered and delayed investigations at the request of senior White House officials, and tipped them off to investigations compromising his independent role as an inspector general

MARYLAND WORKERS BUY COMPANY - Things hadn't been going well at the Elkridge Coating Technologies in Howard County. The business was failing, and the paper plant was on a way way ticket to shutting its doors. Then the employees got an idea: why don't we buy the company. After first. Not knowing how to start, phone calls were made, banks and relatives with small business experience were tapped, The workers renegotiate their lease, got a a $100,000 loan and now have saved both their company and it's 20 full time jobs.

VIRGINIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY - Its been a mixed bag down in Richmond. The General Assembly failed to override any of Gov. Terry McAuliffe's vetoes but it did kill over a dozen of his amendments in a session that is pitting the Republican controlled House against the Democratic Governor. The House did override one of the governor’s vetoes, on a bill related to red-light cameras and sponsored by one General Assembly Democrat who is opposing McAuliffe on his top desire: expanding Medicaid. But the Senate failed to do so, so the veto stands.
