PHOENIX (KSAZ) - People are willing to pay thousands of dollars for the perfect smile and for some that means having dimples.

Suck it in, fold it up, slim it down, pull it back. These days there is little you cannot buy at the plastic surgeons office.

"People like dimples, it's a unique group, a tremendous interest in it and we are surprised by the people who want to have dimples," said Dr. Amiya Prasad.

Doctor Prasad's phone has been ringing of the hook with people seeking his expertise in dimpleplasty, that is the creation of dimples.

"They think of celebs like Jennifer Garner or Mario Lopez and they like those dimples... and so come in from all over country and sometimes outside of country to have dimples done," he said.

Dimpleplasty has been around for at least 30 years but now it's more affordable and popular as a one-day outpatient procedures.

"A lot of time people with round faces will get this done so people think they lost weight because it gives them a more angular face," he said.

That's exactly the motivation behind Lisa Williams's surgery. She has spent a year considering it before going under the knife.

"I just want someone to perk me up a little bit, make me a little cuter, a little more of a remember-able smile," said Williams.

To begin Dr. Prasad must find where her natural dimples "would be", he measures from the corner of her eye down.

"And then we kind of measure out three centimetres to a point where it would be... there's kind of a sweet spot where the skin will naturally give us permission to fold in a little bit and look more natural," said Dr. Prasad.

Once he marks both sides of her face Lisa gets an idea of what her new smile will look like and then it's off to the operating room.

"We are working from the inside of the mouth and manipulating the particula muscle and attaching a stitch to the skin from the inside so no scar," said Prasad.

No scar and hardly any swelling or soreness. In about half an hours time Lisa had new dimples she didn't have before.

"At the point where the surgical dimples settle out and become natural then it's really hard to tell," he said.

The surgery is also being performed by many plastic surgeons in the valley who can also remove any fat tissue from the cheeks as part of their dimpleplasty procedure.
