CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A South Side man was ordered held on $250,000 bond after he was charged in connection with a police chase Tuesday night that ended when his vehicle collided with another vehicle and crashed into a bus stop, injuring five people in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.

James D. Pugh, 48, faces two felony counts of aggravated fleeing, and five misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of drugs, driving on a suspended license, possession of cannabis and criminal damage to property valued at less than $300, according to a statement from Chicago Police. He was also cited for various traffic violations.

Pugh, of the 1400 block of West 115th Street, was identified as the driver of a vehicle that Calumet District officers tried to stop for a traffic violation about 8:40 p.m., police said.

The vehicle sped away and, while traveling north on Michigan Avenue near 103rd Street, collided with another vehicle and then crashed into a bus stop, police said.

Four pedestrians standing at the bus stop and a person inside the vehicle that was hit were injured, authorities said.

A 64-year-old woman who was inside the vehicle that was hit and a 25-year-old woman who was standing at the bus stop were treated and released from Roseland Community Hospital, police said.

Another 25-year-old woman was taken to Roseland Hospital in fair-to-serious condition, said Larry Langford, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.

A 58-year-old man was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, also in fair-to-serious condition, he said.

Police said a 21-year-old man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He was listed in serious-to-critical condition, Langford said.

Pugh attempted to run away after the crash, but was eventually apprehended, police said. He declined medical attention.

Pugh was ordered held on $250,000 bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office, which listed his first name as Jimmie. He is next scheduled to appear in court May 2.
