A Cobb county man is recovering after he claims he was attacked by two dogs while he got his mail. Scott Hess says he was walking to his mailbox Saturday afternoon when a car honked at him. Hess says he was very surprised about what happened next.
“I turned around and two dogs crossed the street and just, jumped me, just started biting me,” says Hess.
Hess says he made his way down this driveway fighting off the dogs for about ten minutes. Hess used trees at the edge of his driveway as a shield and once the dogs backed down he was able to run to his house.
“He came in the screen porch. The dogs had knocked him back pretty good. He had a big bump on his head so he was a little out of it and he was bleeding. The dogs were standing there barking,” says Hess’s wife Melody Hess.
Hess says Cobb County Animal Control, police and fire rescue came out to his home on Barrett Parkway, but the dogs escaped.
The dogs bit Hess on his hands, back, arm and leg and will have to undergo "rabies treatment" unless he can find the dogs by Wednesday. The first of four rounds would include seven shots and would cost Hess $1,500.
Hess says one dog wore a blue collar and the other a pink collar. Hess believes one of the dogs was a Labrador and the other a mix.
“The one with the pink collar was a little smaller, head was shaped a little different the eyes were slanted so I do not know if she was a pit bull mix or a rottweiler mix,” says Hess.
Hess worries these dogs may attack his neighbors next.
“Some of my neighbors are older than I am and some are children and I am afraid someone will get attacked and hurt. I was lucky,” says Hess.
