Laura's Likes: Wine!

Posted: Updated:
If you're celebrating Easter this weekend, you might be serving up some wine at your gathering. If you have trouble figuring out what to serve, or if you need help saving opened bottles you might not finish, this Laura's Likes is for you!

Hello Vino

How often do you hit the wine aisle, but can't figure out what to buy?  If it happens to you, try the Hello Vino app.  It helps you find a good bottle, gives you the best wine & food pairings, or even suggests wine for certain holidays and gift-giving.

You tell the app what you're eating or give general taste preferences, and Hello Vino will give you a recommendation.

You can also snap a pic of a wine label when you're at the store, and the app will tell you all about it!  If you want to remember a wine you love, just snap a photo of the label and keep it in the app.  You can also give it a rating, and then share your find with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or via email.

Hello Vino is available for iPhone and Android users. For more info, click here to visit their website!

Savino Connoisseur

So you have your tasty wine, but what happens if you don't finish the whole bottle?  Don't let it go to waste.  Enter Savino Connoisseur, the wine preservation kit!  It's a great way to keep it fresh with the same flavor for up to a week.

Here's how: Pour the remaining wine into Savino, insert the float to create a physical barrier between the wine and the oxygen.  Then place the top on the carafe to prevent any accidental spills.  When you're ready to enjoy the wine again, remove the top and pour.

It was invented by a guy named Scott out of frustration over the waste of a good bottle.  He's been on a journey for 15 years, and one year ago, Savino hit store shelves.  You can buy it through for $60 including shipping.  Amazon also carries it.  Click here for more info!

Divine Wine Tours

If you're not hosting family and friends this weekend, Divine Wine Tours might be for you!  Their goal is to connect wine-curious people who want to learn a little something about wine with Virginia wineries.  They cover wineries throughout the Virginia countryside.

Divine Wine Tours is not a transportation service or a party bus.  Dave and Candy are a local husband and wife team who started touring local wineries themselves.  Then, people started asking them where to go and what to buy-- and they realized Virginia was ready for a Napa-style wine tour.  They started their business last year, and it has taken off.

There are different tours to choose from, starting at $80 per person.  That includes transportation, private tastings, a gourmet catered lunch, water and other bonuses.  Visit their website,, and pick your tour date and buy your seat!  You can also customize your tour if you want to book a group event.
