South Korean Prosecutors Seek Arrest Warrant For Ferry Captain

Posted: Updated:

Prosecutors say they've asked a court to issue an arrest warrant for the captain in South Korea's ferry disaster.

Investigators say he was not in control of the ferry when it began to sink. He turned the steering over to the third mate and abandoned ship.

Cell phone video gives us a glimpse at the last few moments onboard the sinking ferry. A survivor shot this footage just after it capsized.

You can see people in life jackets clinging to the side of the ship to stop themselves from sliding.

And Friday came word that a high school vice-principal, who had been rescued from the ship, was found dead. Police say he took his own life.

We've also learned dive teams are pumping air into the ferry for survivors who may be trapped. But bad weather is making any rescue attempts difficult.

The coast guard confirms 28 people are dead. More than 200 remain missing.
