Police And FBI Search For Armored Car Bandits, Recover Getaway Vehicles

PHILADELPHIA -

UPDATE: Police have been sitting outside a house on the 4200 block of Pennsgrove Street in West Philadelphia all evening waiting for a search warrant.

This is where they believe the men who pulled off an armored car heist this morning at the TD Bank in Tacony later divvied up the cash and split.

The Philadelphia Highway Patrol and the FBI chased down a white Cadillac Escalade, now believed to be the second getaway car used by a crew of robbers that pulled off a daring armored car heist at this TD Bank in Tacony on Thursday.

"Hopefully it ends peacefully that would be the big thing," Liz Barnett told Fox 29 after the SUV was recovered here.

The Escalade was tracked by the FBI to a home in West Philadelphia. When agents approached, the driver of the Escalade drove the wrong way down a street and jumped on I-76. Highway Patrol gave chase until the SUV stopped here at this apartment complex in the 7900 of Henry Avenue.

Police ceased the Escalade and a red Mercedes from the scene the Henry Avenue location.

"They're trying to find him in there from what I understand, everybodys talking," Barnett added.

Police believed the Escalade carried the armored car bandits from the 6600 block of Tackawanna two blocks from the bank where the robbers dumped this white van used in the hold up. Two robbers armed with Tec.9 machine pistols stuck up the armored car delivery guard outside the bank just before 9 a.m.

"They had assault rifles, God knows what they'll do to somebody, if somebody confronts them," neighbor Kimberly Hill said.

"Sounds like it was planned, dropping the van off and moving on to something else," said Robert Geiger who owns the Geiger Bakery just across the street from the bank.

This armored car heist comes six months after a crew of masked gunmen held up a Garda armored car at a bank in the Northeast, escaping with over $300,000. They carried Tec.9s too and dumped their getaway vehicle a few blocks from the scene. Investigators tell Fox 29 it could be the same suspects.

"Get a job, that's what they need to do, get a job," a neighbor said.

"I hope they catch them, I really do," Hill added.
