Sky's Fowles sidelined due to injury

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago Sky center Sylvia Fowles will miss time due to an injury, the team announced Thursday.

Fowles underwent arthroscopic surgery of the hip to repair a torn labrum and impingement. The team says she will be sidelined until her joint is fully recovered.

"Although it's unfortunate, I know Sylvia will attack her rehabilitation with the mindset of returning this season even stronger," said Sky Head Coach and General Manager Pokey Chatman. "Collectively we made a decision in the best interest of Syl's long-term health and the long-term goals of this franchise."

The 6'6" center averaged 16.3 points and a league-best 11.5 rebounds in 32 games for the Sky last season. She is the all-time leader in games played in a Chicago Sky uniform.

The Sky will open training camp on April 27 and will start their 2014 season at the Allstate Arena on May 16.
