DETROIT (WJBK) - A father and mother say a man preyed on their young daughter via a popular phone app, despite being told several times not to make further contact.

Eric and Vaquita Williams thought it was a mistake when their 10-year-old daughter first began getting random text messages from adult men. Their daughter was using the app Tango, which allows users to chat through text or video.

Vaquita says her daughter brought the phone to her immediately, alerting her of what happened.

"I text everyone [and] let them know, 'This is a 10-year-old girl's phone. Please do not text this phone again.' [Most say] 'Okay, sorry, thanks,' or whatever. But this one guy just kept on going," Vaquita says.

It wasn't long before the man, who goes by the name Abiya Aditya Kumar, crossed a line.

"[I texted] 'Don't text this phone again.' So he says, 'Okay, baby, I love you.' I said, 'I understand you might be bored but now you're being a creep, and you're a pedophile if you keep texting this phone again,'" Vaquita says.

Sure enough, the texts kept coming, along with an incomprehensible voicemail and a sexually disturbing video.

The man called via the app again, and this time the girl's father answered the video call.

Eric pretended to be his daughter on the line, and it didn't take long before the man began doing more lewd acts on the video call.

FOX 2's Taryn Asher attempted to make contact with the man via the app, but he did not answer the call. It's unclear if his Tango username is his real name or where he is calling from.

Eric brought the phone and complaint to the attention of Detroit police, who directed him to a task force with Michigan State Police.

Vaquita says apps that allow faces to be seen are dangerous and is not allowing her daughter to have the app on her phone anymore.

The Williams say they want this man stopped before he goes after another young, unsuspecting child.
