A Northeast D.C. neighborhood is on edge after a man was found shot inside a home on Chillum Place at around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
He was rushed to a local hospital where he later died.
Homicide detectives and forensics experts converged on the scene looking for clues.
Neighbors say they are shocked because the area is usually so quiet.
Fourth District Commander Kimberly Chisley-Missouri told reporters there was no obvious indication of a break-in, but the case is still in its early stages of investigation.
Early reports indicated the man might have been in his 70s. The commander said she wouldn't call him elderly.
Neighbors tell FOX 5 the homeowner and his wife have grown children.
Police are not saying the homeowner was the victim.
